In 2019 during the Women’s World Cup Tournament in France it had become increasingly clear that the demand for equal pay in the football industry was becoming louder.
There were stadium chants of “Equal Pay!” during a lot of the matches, which gave Megan Rapinoe and the rest of the US National team the encouragement they needed to fight for equal pay in football.

Rapinoe, along with a lot of other footballers believes that women should be paid the same amount of money as male footballers do and she wants women to be respected in the workplace.

The USNT captain feels so strongly about this that last year she openly admitted that she was happy for it to be taken to court, and so she did…

The Women’s World Cup winner co captains Rapinoe and Alex Morgan appeared on many television shows to discuss with the nation their views and eventually Rapinoe and her 27 teammates put their name to a lawsuit.

Megan may be small with a big smile but this does not mean she is going to be willing to back down from anyone and her message to all women is to “Keep fighting!”

Rapinoe claims: “We will never stop fighting for equality” after the US National Team’s bid to fight for equality was recently dismissed by a court in California.

Morgan admitted she was “shocked” at the decision made by the judge and that there is
no hesitation that they will definitely be appealing this case.
Even though the judged turned down their fight for equal pay the Women’s team have
been allowed for complaints against unfair training conditions, medical treatment and
travel facilities, which is a step in the right direction for the ladies!

What is social media saying about this?
This case has been spoken about heavily in the football industry over the past year with
even members of the presidency speaking about it on social media.
Joe Biden, Vice President of The United States created a tweet on the social media
platform yesterday, which reads “To @USWNT: don’t give up this fight. This is not over
yet.” Biden is very much behind the USWNT on achieving equal pay as the tweet also
says “@USSoccer: Equal pay now. Or else when I'm president, you can go elsewhere for World Cup funding.”
It seems as though a lot of twitter users are not thinking the same as Joe Biden, as a poll on my twitter page which is asking users if they agree with Megan Rapinoe on equal pay in football has more votes for no they are against Megan Rapinoe's fight then it does yes they agree with women being paid the same as men.
With the US National Team planning to appeal their bid for equal pay in football in due course, we wonder what the outcome will be?
