It has been 73 days since any fixtures have taken part in The Women’s Super League after a two week international break, followed by the suspension of football after the outbreak of coronavirus and there are growing concerns that the women’s game is being pushed out of the picture after a rise in recent years.
Fans of the sport are starting to worry that once football is allowed again, the Premier League will take full priority leaving The WSL to be in danger.
However, it is being argued by Women’s football lovers that with The WSL having more manageable crowd sizes and venues, it only makes sense that they make a comeback first.
With 45 games still to be played of the 2019/20 season of the league it is a possibility that the season could be played behind closed doors over a six week period at a neutral ground as early stages of assessing options is underway.
The neutral ground under consideration is St George’s Park.
Fans are not happy with this idea as it could give some teams an advantage over
others but currently this is the safest way The FA see to finish off this season.
A live poll on my twitter page is asking users their opinion on this, check it out and

Resuming any kind of football right now is very high risk and it is being constantly
reviewed but The FA are determined to try and safely finish the season.
The FA says they are “ in regular contact with all the clubs and the safety well
being of everyone is our main priority”.
The health and safety of football fans, staff and players is the most important thing at
this distressing, difficult time.
There have been possibilities announced of the weekend of the 6th of June when the tournament can be resumed, only if government guidelines allow it to happen, nothing is definite as of yet.
This would mean players would return to full training by atleast the end of May and each team playing two games per week until the 18th of July with all the teams being based at the chosen neutral ground. (That is a lot of people in one space, yikes!)
Unfortunately, on the 9th of April tiers three to seven of the women’s league were declared void and fans are worried that the same could happen to the top two tiers depending on the governments advice.
The Premier League are also currently trying to find a soloution to their season, with nothing yet been confirmed to anyone. It is unknown weather the Premier League will come back before the WSL does.
Manchester City are currently top of the table by one point as Chelsea are just behind, with Liverpool in 12th place. The women’s FA Cup had reached the quarter finals before the suspension of football last month.
We all miss you football and can’t wait for you to be back when it is safe to do so!
