Who are Hashtag United?

Hashtag United is a men’s football team which was created by a YouTuber named Spencer Owen. The club was founded in 2016 and was initially set up as a group of friends playing together to raise money for a charity match to honour their childhood friend.
Since then, Hashtag have played friendlies and exhibition matches in a creative league format created by Spencer. The idea that started as a laugh and a bit of fun has turned into a real idea with the team now being a semi-professional football club based in Tilbury, Essex, England.

They are now members of the Essex Senior League which is the ninth tier of English football and play at the Chadfields Stadium. Due to the fanbase of Spencer Owen fans took behind this idea and were supporters from the very start. This meant that they earned enough money to fund the whole journey as well as giving the players a salary.
They have always reached to new heights with a spin off version of what they do which is about them finding the next superstar. Fans from around the globe get to take part in trials to get into the real Hashtag team. One winner called Scott Pollock won the show and was giving rewards for his achievement. He was so good that a year he was scouted by a League 2 team called Northampton Town, which is where he spends his time now.

In terms of the players at Basildon, the include stars such as Sue Smith, Karen Carney and Siobhan Chamberlain with good luck messages coming from Chelsea Captain Cesar Azpilicueta. Spencer Owen on his video talking about womens football said “Following the 2019 Womens World Cup I made a personal pledge to support the growth of women’s football and had been looking for the right opportunity to do so since. I knew the best case scenario would be bringing a women’s team under our wing at Hashtag so I could ensure continuous support long-term.”
This exciting new project has got fans talking about how far the women team can go and what that future may hold for them. Furthermore, UCFB lecturer and tutor Jason Stephens is the head coach of AFC Basildon. His appearance was noticed on Spencer Owens video where he was given an introduction to Hashtags fanbase.
